Advice for Patients abroad:
1. Seek medical help locally.
Visit a clinic or hospital where you are, so that a local doctor can assess you and provide a legal prescription.
2. UK prescriptions cannot be used abroad.
A UK GP cannot issue prescriptions to be dispensed overseas.
Also, medication cannot be posted internationally.
3. We can provide documentation.
We can supply you with a list or summary of your medications for you to show to a local doctor.
4. If medication is urgent.
Attend the nearest emergency department abroad for urgent or essential medications.
5. Controlled drugs.
Some medicines may be restricted abroad. A local doctor will advise on safe alternatives.
6. Travel Insurance.
Liaise with your insurer. They may cover medical costs, emergency visits, or replacement medication.
