Cervical Screening Awareness Campaign January 2026

January is Cervical Screening Awareness month.

The uptake of cervical cancer screening in England is decreasing.

Cervical cancer leads to approximately 685 deaths in England each year. However, through cervical screening and the HPV vaccination programme, eliminating cervical cancer is more achievable than ever before.

Cervical cancer is the most common form of cancer in women under 35 with two women in the UK per day dying from the disease. Regular cervical screening appointments can prevent up to 75% of instances of cervical cancer.

Despite this, many women are reluctant to have this test done, with a quarter of women not responding to their screening invitation.

Practice Nurse Amanda has put together an information board at our Skegness and Chapel St. Leonards surgeries, with useful information, and addressing the main concerns and worries surrounding the procedure. Please feel free to drop by to take a look. Our reception team will be on hand to help you arrange an appointment if you are due or overdue your smear test.
