Warm Weather, Cold Water, Stay Safe!

With the recent heart-breaking reports of young people losing their lives in open water, we’re sharing an important reminder about hidden water dangers.

Even on the sunniest and warmest of days, sudden changes in water temperature can cause cold water shock, a powerful physical response that can make it hard to breathe, move, or stay afloat. Even strong swimmers can get into difficulty within seconds.

Inflatables, while fun, can also be risky at the coast. A light breeze can carry them far from shore very quickly, pulling people into deeper, colder water without warning.

Of course we want everyone to enjoy this beautiful weather, but please do so safely, confidently, and responsibly.

Please take a moment to look after yourself and those around you.

Stick to lifeguarded areas

Avoid inflatables in the sea

If you do enter water, it is better to do so slowly, to let your body adjust

Let people know where you are going and do not take risks or ‘show off’ when with a group of friends

Call 999 and ask for the Coastguard in an emergency

Let’s keep our community safe while making the most of the sunshine.
