Sepsis is a life‑threatening reaction to an infection and needs urgent hospital treatment. It can get worse quickly, so recognising the signs early can save lives.
In adults, look out for:
Slurred speech or confusion
Extreme shivering or muscle pain
Passing little or no urine
Severe breathlessness
Skin that looks mottled, bluish or very pale
In children, seek help fast if they:
Are breathing very fast or struggling to breathe
Have a rash that doesn’t fade when pressed
Are unusually sleepy, difficult to wake, or very cold
Have a fit or convulsion
Are not feeding or passing urine for 12 hours
If you suspect sepsis, call 999 or go to A&E immediately.
Learn the symptoms, trust your instincts, and act fast. It could save a life!
