You may have seen in the news that Jeremy Clarkson has revealed that he has prostate cancer.
Prostate problems are common, especially as men get older.
Most issues are not cancer, but some are, and catching them early makes a major difference. You don’t need to be embarrassed, and you don’t need to “tough it out”.
Getting checked is a sign of strength, not weakness.
What the Prostate Is:
The prostate is a small gland that sits just below the bladder. Its job is to help produce semen.
As men age, it can become enlarged or develop other conditions, including prostate cancer.
Symptoms to Look Out For:
If you notice any of the following, it’s important to get them checked…
Changes in urination — needing to pee more often, especially at night, difficulty starting or stopping, or a weak flow
Pain or discomfort — in the lower back, pelvis, or when urinating
Blood in urine or semen — even once
Erectile changes — difficulty getting or keeping an erection
Unexplained weight loss — or feeling unusually tired
These symptoms don’t automatically mean cancer, but they do mean you should speak to a clinician.
What to Do if You’re Worried:
Contact your GP surgery. Even if symptoms are mild or come and go
Attend an appointment. Examinations are quick, routine, and done with dignity
Share any family history, especially if a father or brother has had prostate cancer
Don’t Be Too Proud to Get Help:
Men often delay seeking help because they feel embarrassed or think they should “just get on with it”. but prostate problems are extremely common, and clinicians deal with them every day.
Early action does save lives and getting checked now could protect your future health, your independence, and your family.
